Retinoscopy
This is the second technique the tutees will learn in university.
Your tutees will have had their retinoscopy lectures before this tutorial. If you would like to review what they have been taught, their lecture handouts are available to download at the bottom of this page. Firstly we are interested in teaching the tutees in how to perform the task, e.g. how to look through a retinoscope and see a reflex! From this you can build up to a standard where the students are performing an objective refraction routine. Read over your notes from last year and make sure you know how to perform each of these tasks yourself. If you are unsure of something, write this aspect down in the allocated space on your question sheet and bring it up in your pre-tutorial discussion. There is a link to the basic clinical techniques module core text book underneath this text. You must register but you may use it to remind yourself of retinoscopy technique. |
Watch the video tutorial above using the questions it asks to help you fill in your question sheet.
Think about what the primary, secondary and tertiary aspects of retinoscopy are. Write your ideas for these in the allocated space on your question sheet. Now download the document 'Retinoscopy Tutor Handout' below and take it to the tutorial with you. You will need it to make notes on your discussion and assess the tutees during the session.
